Courses allows you to choose whether items should be marked as “Serve” or “Hold” on the order ticket sent to the kitchen. This helps the kitchen know what to start preparing immediately and what should be served later.
When the guests are nearly finished with their first course, you can send a new order ticket where the next courses are marked as “Serve.” This ensures smooth service!
To activate the feature, log in to Backstage → Organisation → Settings → Enable course management. To get the most out of the feature, we also recommend using the Table Plan function and enabling Kitchen printer.
Settings in the POS
Tap My Store → Courses.
Tap Add new course → Enter a name (e.g. Starters) → Choose default setting (Serve or Hold) → Save.
Tap Add group under the new course and select the product groups to link to the course → Save.
Repeat the steps to add all your courses (e.g. Mains, Dessert, etc.).
Using in the POS
New order
Start by enabling courses in the cart. Go to the cart and then tap More Options → Tap Courses if it's not already checked.
When you add items linked to your Courses in the cart, you'll now see the course name and an icon:
A blue banner with a waiter icon for courses marked to be served immediately.
A red banner with a stop icon for courses marked as "Hold."
After you select Park or Save (depending on how you use your floor plan), you can now review which items are to be served and which the kitchen should wait with.
Switch between Serve & Hold
To move an entire course, tap “Hold” or “Serve” next to the course name.
To move a single item, tap the arrow icon next to the item and choose which course to move it to.
Update an Order by Sending a “Serve” Order Ticket
Once an order has been assigned to a table, you can send a new “Serve” order ticket to the kitchen at the appropriate time (e.g. when the server notices that the guests are almost done with the first course).
Open the correct table. Tap or long press the table depending on your settings (If you’re on the home screen: Parked → Tap the table).
In the top right corner of the table view, you'll see a button that says e.g. "Serve Main Course" (or the name of your next course).
When you tap the button, a new order ticket is sent to the kitchen with information on which courses to serve next. The button then automatically updates to the next course, e.g. "Serve Dessert", and so on.
